The Orioles were established as the original Milwaukee Brewers in 1894 and were the St. Louis Browns for the first half of the 20 century before moving to Baltimore in 1954. The club’s three World Series titles (1966, 1970, 1983) all came in Baltimore. Some of baseball’s biggest names—including Cal Ripken Jr., Jim Palmer, and Brooks Robinson—won World Series titles with the Orioles. Ripken is probably the team’s most famous player, as he holds the all-time record for consecutive baseball games played with 2,632.
Team Introduction
After making the playoffs three times from 2012-16, the Orioles fell on hard times and finished in last place in four of the next five seasons, with a fourth-place finish in the American League East coming in 2020. The rebuilding, however, as shown dividends in 2022. While it may not be enough to make the playoffs, Baltimore entered the month of September in the playoff hunt and well over the .500 mark for the first time since 2016. In fact, the team had been historically bad — it only had two 100-loss seasons in its history before 2018, and it now has five.

Manager Brandon Hyde is, by many experts’ accounts, two years ahead on the O’s rebuilding project. The team has continued to overachieve in 2022 even after trading longtime leader Trey Mancini in late July.
The Team
The team’s offensive stars are Anthony Santander and Ryan Mountcastle, who lead the team in home runs and RBI in 2022. Catcher Adley Rutschman was promoted to the big leagues in the summer of 2022 and has also been a contributing factor to Baltimore’s success.
The Orioles have also been good in 2022 without starting pitcher John Means, who is expected to be ready for the 2023 season after having Tommy John surgery in the spring. Dean Kremer has been one of the team’s best starting pitchers along with Jordan Lyles, who leads the team in wins and strikeouts. Relief pitcher Felix Bautista has also come alive in 2022, striking out more than a batter per inning on average.
Baltimore Orioles Predictions
It was reported that the Orioles will go into 2023 with this young group of players but—for the first time in several years—also compete with other teams to make significant additions in the offseason. The club plays in a very competitive division with the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays all ahead of them in the division and for playoff spots in 2022, along with the Boston Red Sox, who reached last year’s American League Championship Series but have been struck by bad pitching this year. The 2023 schedule will feature less games between division opponents and more balance, so that could help the Orioles in their push for a playoff spot. Because of this twist, we predict that the Orioles will earn a wild card berth in 2023 but fall in the first round.
We will update our predictions once betting odds are released for the 2023 MLB season.
The Schedule
The grueling 162-game baseball schedule is the longest in all North American sports, as teams play nearly every day for six months. The 2023 season starts March 30 in Boston with the first game at Camden Yards taking place on April 6 against the Yankees. Teams will play division foes 12 times instead of 18 starting in 2023, and all clubs will play at least a three-game series against every other team in baseball for the first time in MLB history. The team will play four games total against geographic rival Washington (two home and two away). The All-Star Game will be held at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on July 11, and the regular season wraps up on Oct. 1 with the last of a four-game home series with the Red Sox. You can see the entire 2023 Orioles schedule here.

The vast majority of Orioles games are televised exclusively on MASN (Mid-Atlantic Sports Network) and MASN2. MLB has several national broadcast partners (ESPN, TBS, FOX/FS1) and streaming entities as well (Apple TV+ and Peacock). If you’re not living in the Maryland or D.C. area, you can see the matches live as part of the MLB Extra Innings package on cable or satellite or the MLB.TV subscription service for streaming devices.
As explained here in greater detail, the state of Maryland does not yet have online sports betting in 2022. Currently, you can only bet on the Baltimore Orioles in person at casinos, but Maryland is expected to have online sports betting ready by Jan. 1, 2023. That means you will be able to wager online from a device anywhere in the state of Maryland for the 2023 MLB season.
Not in 2022, but along with online betting, Camden Yards does have plans to open a space devoted to sports betting for the 2023 season. The team is planning to partner with Nevada-based SuperBook Sports for the sportsbook that will accept live, on-site wagers through traditional betting windows and electronic kiosks. SuperBook will have advertising signage inside the ballpark as well.
