The Washington Wizards (13-21) will arrive home from a 6-game road trip as they prepare to face off against the Philadelphia 76ers (20-12) who are red hot in the last few weeks.

The Sixers come in riding a season-high 8-game win streak and have risen to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. With star rookie Tyrese Maxey out due to injury, veterans Joel Embiid and James Harden have elevated their play, even more, to keep this team rolling.

On the other hand, the Wizards recently pulled off an impressive victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night to end their road trip on a high note, despite losing four out of six.

It remains to be seen whether these moves have staying power when they take on Philadelphia, but it looks like it could be an intriguing matchup. Tipoff is at Capital One Arena, Washington, DC (7 p.m. ET)

Tyrese Maxey May be Back for the Sixers

Despite sustaining a left-foot fracture over a month ago, it appears Tyrese Maxey is about to make his long-awaited return to the Philadelphia 76ers. Reports on Monday strongly suggested that the 22-year-old would be rejoining the team’s lineup following 17 games on the injury report.

His accomplishments prior to his setback have not gone unnoticed, averaging an impressive 22.9 points (while playing with Harden and Embiid), 4.4 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 15 games prior to getting injured. Philadelphia is undoubtedly excited to welcome back Maxey and see what he can bring upon his return.

Maxey has been a vital player in their last two meetings with the Wizards this season. He contributed 28 and 32 points on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, respectively.

“He’s a huge part of what we want to do. It won’t be that hard. There’s a lot of questions, but it’s good questions to have, good problems to have.” Harden answered when asked about Maxey.

Will the Unicorn Show Up?

Kristaps Porzingis has been on fire for the Wizards recently, scoring a combined 62 points against the 76ers in two consecutive matchups. In the first contest, a 118-111 home loss, he tallied 32 points and again scored 30 when they faced off again in Philly, leading to a 121-111 victory.

Unfortunately, his current streak was brought to a halt against the Kings; in Washington’s 125-111 win in Sacramento on Friday, Porzingis made only 2 of 11 shots from the floor and failed to make any beyond the arc. Kyle Kuzma stepped in with strong support, dropping 32 points on 14 of 23 shots from the floor, along with nine rebounds and five assists for his second game this season with at least 30 points, five boards, and five assists.

“I just put my hard hat on every night,” Kuzma said after the game. “I come ready to play. I’ve got something to prove to myself every single night. I’m ready and I’m available for my teammates. I have the same mentality every night.”

Porzingis may be the man of the Wizards now, but it also comes with greater pressure to stay consistent as they face stronger opponents like Philly.
